Dr. RJ Burr

Ahh, where to begin. No, seriously, where do I begin?

I'm RJ Burr, a chiropractor here in Plymouth, and I've never been much of a wordsmith, so I've always found writing these bios to be a little tricky. But hey, if I were a wiz at writing biographies, I probably wouldn't have been able to focus on my true passion in life: guiding people down the pathway of health independence.

My approach evolved from my personal experience.

I'll save you the details. But I have suffered from debilitating back pain. I've been there. Not to mention, I endured bouts of neck and shoulder pain.

Read Dr. Burr's full story

I had injuries playing sports in high school and college. I knew how they occurred, and I let my body heal. I had always recovered.

It was not until Chiropractic school I developed continuously varying back pain for no apparent reason, go figure! I got chiropractic adjustments multiple times per day. Sometimes it felt good afterward, other times, I felt no change at all.

As you could imagine, I was frustrated as all get-up. I'm in my twenties, in chiropractic school, where I had been begrudgingly dealing with back pain for the first time in my life. AND chiropractic wasn't helping me at all! I had moments where I was ready to drop out of school.

I stuck with it. I'm glad I did because, with the help of my colleagues, I discovered the missing piece: ME.

Whether I liked it or not, my behaviors were contributing to my back pain roller coaster ride.

Ironically, I sat A LOT in chiropractic school. And in crappy chairs at times. It wasn't that I had "bad posture," but it was the amount of time I was forced to sit in class and study afterward. I wondered why I felt great when exercising but crappy the rest of the day. Now it made sense.

What did I do? I changed my behavior. I sat with a lumbar roll. I got up every 30 minutes for a micro-break. I would take a knee at my desk rather than sit. I made it a point to walk a bit extra in between classes. I would do my spinal "brushing & flossing" exercise I learned that helped me without needing anyone else to "fix" me.

All of this came from what I learned taking my first McKenzie Method course. Since chiropractic school, I have had a handful of low back pain episodes (most for silly reasons like deadlifting too much), and I have successfully self-assessed and self-treated using the McKenzie Method. It's not always magic because some injuries take time, but it's guided me down the right path every time.

Empower you to take responsibility for your recovery of function.

My approach evolved from my personal experience. This is the reason why I don't recommend adjustments three times per week for multiple weeks or basic strengthening exercises you could otherwise search on the internet.

It's limited, non-specific, and not individualized to you.

People say, "you're different." "You're more like a PT than a chiro."

Whatever they want to call it, it doesn't matter.

As the founder of REACH Rehab + Chiropractic Performance Center, I work according to my belief that for you to have a healthy, pain-free lifestyle, you must be responsible for your health by eating well, moving well, and moving often.

It's all about helping people in the best way possible. Through my experience, I believe I have found it. But it's not perfect, and things change, which is why I'm continually learning and adapting.

To help you. This is why I do what I do.

I look forward to helping you do more than relieve pain. Be unstoppable.

Outside of the center, I practice what I preach. I'm totally into sports and experimenting with a myriad of exercises and movements. I'm also a bit of a foodie and have a passion for whipping up all sorts of concoctions. Most of all, I'm a sap that loves spending time with family!

I'm a native of West Bloomfield, MI, but planted roots in Plymouth with my wife, Liz, and our human alarm clocks, Charlie and Bennett.

Chiropractic Physician

Dr. Sheridan Kent

Hi, I'm Sheridan! I'm a Berkley, MI native and an Oakland University alumnus with a Bachelor of Science in Wellness and Health Promotion. My introduction to chiropractic care began as a young athlete. As a softball pitcher, I hit a plateau in my performance, a common challenge for many athletes. My mother, who was seeing a chiropractor at the time, brought me along, and it completely changed my perspective.

My goal is to help women return to their daily activities without worrying about back pain when lifting their child or needing to find the nearest bathroom after a good laugh.

Through chiropractic care, I discovered the critical role of fluid arm movement, spinal rotation, and hip mobility in improving my pitching. After treatment, I noticed significant improvements in my strength, mobility, and overall performance, allowing me to throw harder and with more precision. This experience taught me the value of balancing strength with mobility to achieve peak performance, not just for athletes but for anyone looking to move and feel better.

This journey inspired me to pursue a career in healthcare, focusing on helping people overcome pain and achieve their goals. I initially considered physical therapy, then I found my passion in chiropractic care and decided to attend Logan University in St Louis, MO. While I love helping student athletes unlock new potential, since starting chiropractic school I've also developed a deep appreciation for women's health. I've seen firsthand how many women accept dysfunctions as "normal" simply because they're common.

Just because something is common doesn't make it normal.

Through my education and mentorship, I've come to understand that effective treatment extends beyond adjustments. It involves truly listening to patients, understanding their unique functional challenges, and incorporating tailored exercise programs into their care. During my final internship at REACH, I refined these skills, gaining valuable experience in innovative approaches that prioritize individualized, patient-centered care.

Outside of the office, I enjoy staying active through weightlifting and checking new places off my travel bucket list. I also have a passion for exploring Detroit-style pizzas, whether locally or in cities across the globe. The furthest I've tried so far is in London, UK! My fiancé, Jimmy, and I are always looking for new recommendations, so please share once I meet you!
